Rebecca’s search for transportation wasn’t like yours.
Because context usually determines and drives content!
You see, when you come from where Rebecca came from, dreams get extinguished. Hope gets lost. Survival becomes life’s singular motivation. From the beginning of Rebecca’s existence, until she was 19 years old, life was too painful. Crowded out by one disappointment after another. A life of continual rejection. Unwanted. Unworthy. And … dreams can’t survive very long within that context.
But then LOVE kicked down the door!
Love lifted Rebecca and carried her. She learned to breathe again. To believe she was wanted. Valued. Darkness turned to light. Progressively dreams began to percolate inside her.
Jesus is the difference. He drastically changes the context. Jesus accepted Rebecca without holding her past against her. He didn’t see her as stained and something to be thrown away.
These days are a far cry from those days. Dreams emerged over and over and over. Jesus Christ didn’t just make Rebecca clean. He made her NEW! The writer of 2 Corinthians 5:17 expressed it this way, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun.”
It’s impossible to list in this post all of the dramatic changes Rebecca has experienced since her new life began. There have been so many and out of those changes hope springs eternal and dreams become reality.
So … let’s skip to the end and celebrate with Rebecca!
Rebecca is now a missionary under Next Generation Ministries (NGM) and will begin to serve full-time in Uganda once she completes her medical school training. But she is not waiting for graduation to serve. She is bringing Jesus to everyone she meets. And she is serving part-time as a medical missionary even now.
She has many more dreams that will be impossible without God’s provision. But for now, one of those dreams is unfolding as she develops this vehicle into a mobile medical clinic. It will provide transportation into remote villages where Rebecca and her team will provide competent and compassionate medical care for those who have no access to it or cannot afford it.
At the end of last year, a benefactor donated a large sum of money to which NGM added several thousand dollars. Now Rebecca has a vehicle! It’s not completely outfitted as a mobile medical clinic but it is transportation. Transportation that will carry her and her team to those in need.
Yes … finding transportation for Rebecca is a bit out of the ordinary. Just another God story to add to all the others.
