Would YOU Drink This?

The answer would be an automatic NO for those privileged to live in a developed nation! But suppose it was the only option available to you like it is in the Kabyanga community where SOZO Dream Foundation recently constructed five classrooms. In that case, the only answer available to you is YES. Sadly. Sadly because this is an actual video taken by Rebecca of the water source for the students attending Kabyanga Primary School.

This is THE source of water for laundry, washing bicycles & motorbikes, cooking, bathing, and drinking.

The immediate and greatest concern of the SOZO Team who have accepted the challenge to make a difference in the Kabyanga community is for safe drinking water for the students who come to this source. There were so many obvious needs for this school when the team arrived for the first time. The school structure was coming apart. The tarp used for roofing was deteriorating so that shade from the sun and cover from the rain was impossible … to the extent that some of the smaller children looked for shelter under the skirt of the teacher! There were no desks or chalkboards. There are no toilets for the staff and students. BUT .. the most glaring need to these medical students and doctors was for safe drinking water.

Change is underway. Progress is being made. The name of the school has just been changed from Kabyanga (which means “one who says no“) Nursery and Primary School, to “GOD’S PLAN Nursery & Primary School“. The provision of classrooms has erupted in hope. A spiritual movement of God has begun.

SOZO is committed to doing all that we can to provide desks, toilets, and safe drinking water for the students of God’s Plan School. Now it is time to take the next step. Just today, Rebecca and her team ordered 50 desks. Each desk will seat four students. SOZO Dream Foundation needs financial partners to cover the $1,000 cost of materials, construction, and delivery of the desks to God’s Plan School.

When Rebecca and I communicated today we agreed that the felt needs are the most obvious to even casual observers. But the great need is the one that is of an eternal nature. We are praying that many of those on the receiving end of this love will see Jesus. We pray many will see a deep need in every person for the work of redemption Christ accomplished on the Cross of Calvary.

It’s impossible for us to not be reminded of what Jesus told the woman at the well in John 4 when they were indirectly discussing thirst. Jesus told the woman, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.”  (italics mine)

The local church has invited the team to come minister on the second Sunday of June … and Rebecca will most likely be the preacher of the day. We are trusting the Lord to motivate some to receive the eternal water He offers them.

Please keep praying. Talk with your family and friends. Ask them to become partners with us in our effort to change Uganda for the glory of God. The current step is providing the students with desks. The future needs are for toilets and drinking water. Please join Team SOZO.
